Emergency Management Otago monitoring incoming weather
Emergency Management Otago (EMO) are keeping a close eye on the incoming weather that is due to effect parts of the region over the next few days.
Metservice has forecasted nearly 100mms of rain for North Otago and up to 90mm for Dunedin with a heavy rain warning issued for these areas.
Group Manager for EMO, Matt Alley said” Our team are closely monitoring this weather event and are ready to respond should there be impacts across our communities. We are working closely with our colleagues at Otago Regional Council and have engaged with our partner agencies including Fire and Emergency NZ, Police, St John, NZTA and welfare groups.”
It is a timely reminder for people to ensure their household plan, emergency supplies and getaway kits are prepared and Mr Alley advises residents to keep away from low lying flood prone areas, not to drive through any flood water and that rivers and streams can rise quickly.
